How to Tell Real Pearls from Fake Ones | A Simple Guide with Baroque Pearls

🌿 Introduction

Pearls have been cherished for centuries, but with so many imitations on the market, it’s not always easy to know what’s real. At Solis, we work only with natural freshwater pearls — especially sculptural baroque shapes. Here are three simple tests you can try at home to tell if your pearls are genuine.

1. Weight Test – Heavier Than Plastic

Real pearls have a natural weight when you hold them in your hand. Imitations made from plastic or resin usually feel light and insubstantial.

2. Touch Test – Cool to the Skin

Place a pearl against your skin. A real pearl feels cool and fresh at first touch, slowly warming up to your body temperature. Plastic or synthetic beads don’t have this refreshing “cool start.”

3. Surface Test – Tiny Ridges

Gently rub a pearl against your teeth. Real pearls feel slightly gritty because of natural ridges, while glass or coated imitation pearls feel perfectly smooth.

🌸 Final Note

Every baroque pearl is one-of-a-kind, with textures and curves no machine can copy. That’s why we love them — each piece in our studio carries a small miracle of nature.
